The Labradoodle is a cross between a Labrador Retriever and a Miniature or Standard Poodle. Like both of his parents, the Labradoodle is adorably cute, friendly, and active. But, don’t be fooled by his cuddly looks – these are intelligent dogs. Originally, they were bred to help the blind. They are now also quite popular pets for people with allergies because, like their poodle parents, they have a non-shedding coat.
Labradoodles can be brown, black, yellow or white and range in size from miniature (weighing less than 25lbs) to the size of a large Labrador (weighing more than 45 lbs). It also appears that Labradoodles have amazing tracking skills. A Labradoodle in America recently travelled across two counties in search of his owner. The dog had been left with relatives who lived twelve miles away, but he jumped a 6 foot fence, negotiated two motorways and avoided numerous coyotes on his way back. He was found about a mile from his home, and then he slept for three days solid!
