One part zebra, one part donkey, all parts fuzzy and adorable. This is Ippo, a baby zonkey born recently on a wildlife reserve in Italy.
Also known as a zeedonk, the zonkey is a cross between a zebra and, as you probably guessed, a donkey.
Zonkeys aren’t the only hybrid possible with a zebra. The stripy creatures are closely related to horses and donkeys – they all belong to the same genus. This means that all sorts of whacky combinations are possible.
A “zorse” is what you get when you cross a male zebra with a female horse. When a male horse breeds with a female zebra, that’s known as a “hebra” and when a male donkey pairs with a female zebra you get a “donkra.” Are you feeling tongue-tied yet?
